Should I Be Concerned Of Having A Little Colored Wetness In My Underwear As I Have An Osotomy?

Hi Doctor, thank you for taking this. I have an osotomy, It is almost a year now. Today, I really felt like I needed

to have a bowl movement, and then, i passed a little gas from my anus. Also, I noticed a little colored wetness in

my underwear. Should I be concerned? Thanks

Hello!

Thank you for the query.

This is very normal thing. Even if the lower part of intestine is not active (due to stomy presence), it constantly produces mucus. Also bacteria produce gas all the time. That is why you may have some strange discharges from anus and gas as well.
If stomy was done because of inflammatory bowels disease, such symptoms may indicate flare up in the disconnected part of intestine. Therefore it should be checked with colonoscopy.

Hope this will help.
Regards.
