Should I Be Worried About The Swelling In Shin After Injury?

I fell yesterday and cut my left shin. i cleaned it, applied antibiotic ointment, and butterfly strips. hurt pretty bad, but aleve helped. today it is swollen and aleve doesnt seem to be helping. Is this normal "day after" trauma, or should i seek further medical attention?

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain swelling after soft tissue injury is commonly seen as a result of inflammation but in case if the swelling is becoming more painful and it is fluctuant and not hard then it is possible that there is infection and swollen area is filled with pus..
In case if there is infection then you will have to take a course of antibiotics like Augmentin 625 mg thrice a day and Ibuprofen 400 mg thrice a day for pain and inflammation..
If the abscess is considerably big in size incision and drainage followed by antiseptic dressing can help in faster resolution..
In case if there is only inflammatory swelling apply Triple Antibiotic Ointment after cleaning the injured area with betadine solution..
