Should I Be Worried As My Baby Is Not Walking Or Putting Weight On His Leg?
Hi, My daughters 11 month old has been walking since 91/2 months. This morning, he woke up and would not walk or put weight on his left leg. She called the pediatrician and they suggested that they take him to our childrens hospital. She is there, and said they it seems to be affecting the other leg as well. We are very frightened. He is acting fine, not crying, eating etc. What could be causing this? Thank you.
Hello my dear child ,did your baby recieve any vaccination injections recently . sometimes acute pain or swelling at injection site can cause this .as a toddler he may have had a fall unnoticed. But the other leg also getting involved suggests that his nerves at the spinal level may be involved. This is usually caused by viral infections or reaction to a viral reaction The doctors will most likely call in a pediatric neurologist to examine him . He will proceed with some special tests before starting specific therapy.Better to keep the baby in the hospital for a week till he is able to walk steadily again.
