Should I Be Worried Of Spotting After Urinating?

Hi. I found a spot of blood (almost similar to menstrual blood) right after I wiped clean after urinating. My period is usually regular and I am 2 weeks away from it. Should I be worried? I am not on any birth control pills and am not having any UTI. Thanks!

Hi,

According to your description as you have ruled out the possibility of hormonal supplements and urinary tract infection, the other possibilities are: minimal spotting during the ovulation due to the drop in the reproductive hormone levels or local causes like cervical erosion polyps etc. As that was only spot of blood, at present you may not need any active treatment. You can wait and watch.

If the spotting recurs or increases in amount, better to consult your gynecologist once and get evaluated. By clinical examination local causes like erosion or polyps can be ruled out. If your doctor suggests, you can go for ultrasound once to rule out any endometrial abnormalities. If everything is normal possibly that could be due to the reproductive hormonal fluctuation and may rectify by itself soon.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Sree Gouri S. R., OBGYN
