Hello, I m Sreekanth, age of 29yrs (MALE), today morning wen i went to toilet, blood is coming out. Its paining. Could u plz tel me whether i need to consult the doctor or ..? What is the reason for happening that .... ? Thanks in Advance Sreekanth Chellur
Hi Sreekanth, Thanks for posting your query. I am Dr.Ratnakar and I am pleased to assist you.
Blood during bowel movements can occur due to hemorrhoids (piles), fissure polyps, inflammatory bowel disease, diverticulosis and malignancy. Since you have said it was painful, fissure is the most probable cause. It occurs when there is a "tear" in the anal verge. You need to take high fiber diet, stool softener and drink lot of fluids. Sitz bath and topical diltiazem would provide relief. You need to confirm the diagnosis before using these medications. Your doctor would do a clinical examination of the anal area and if needed a sigmoidoscopy test to find the cause. I hope that answers your question. Regards, Dr.Ratnakar Kini
