Should I Take Separate Vitamin D In Addition To Multi-vitamin?

Do I need to take a separate vitamin D besides what I m getting from my One A Day Multi-vitamin? I have carpeltunnels a bit in my hands & still have to wear mits to bed. The tingling is kinda like on on again/off again thing I can deal with. But the coldness is starting to last more now into springlike & sooner fallike weather thn it ever used to be. A lady I just ran into suggested this. I scheduled an appt. w/my normal doctor to have my vitamin D level checked as well as it s time for cholesterol stuff too. I also had my thyroid checked 3-4 years ago & was boarder line. No medicine given ~ good! But I do wanna see what I can do on my own first before I have to pay my portion of the remaining health bill. Any ideas on this stuff?

Welcome to HCM! Let me start my saying if your thyroid doesn't work correctly you may have trouble with your cholesterol. The recommendations are that a TSH of 2.5 is pretty good if you are looking at values. You need iodine and selinium to have a healthy thyroid regardless of medication.

Most people are vitamin D deficient and the guidelines need to be redone. Vitamin D is poorly absorbed and not in our food chain to any great extent. So, check your multi bottle and see what level vitamin D is at. I might mention though with the multivitamins the iron knocks out the calciium and several of the nutrients don't get along and please don't take a multi within 4 hours of your medications!

I also have a virtual office here at HCM if you have lengthy things you would like to speak to me about. Just enter the specialist portal and ask for me. Good luck with everything! Kathryn Shattler, MS,RDN
