Should Malaria Be Tested Whenever Having Illness?

I have what I think is the flu but it seems worse than usual. I visited a malaria risk country in November and didn't take my malaria tablets due to them not going down my throat properly. Should I visit the GP whenever I feel ill due to me not taking my malaria tables?

HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

You can visit if you have symptoms in keeping with malaria but you can experience other illnesses such as the flu or common cold that have nothing to do with malaria.

You may have symptoms that clearly point away from malaria eg cough, nasal congestion etc.

Also important is the time frame, malaria would normally occur 7 to 18 days after exposure.
IF you have symptoms outside of this time frame, not likely malaria

Malaria would cause chills, headaches, vomiting

I hope this helps
