Hi,I am Dr. Gopal Goel (Orthopaedic Surgeon). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
yes please, my dad is diabetic, 73, and COPD, Congestive heart failure, and just had total knee replacement on his left knee...now has staph infection, and they went in yesterday and put in a knee that only moves 45 degrees...and want him to have another operation in 6 months...Good Lord...will he make it? I am scared...he looks very pale, has had several blood transfusions... and is weak...what should we expect
For diabetics - need a diet management plan and medicine plan to work together where he reduces the blood glucose levels and also have enough strength.
For COPD - doing breathing exercises to improve the strength in the muscles of respiration are advised. As due to COPD there will be changes of infection to lung very easily and having good breathing capacity is a must.
TKR done now needs to undergo a total knee rehabilitation program to achieve at least 110° range of motion in the knee before looking forward to another surgery of the knee.
Having help from a physiotherapist will help improve the Diabetes, COPD and Knee rehabilitation.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
