Should Swelling And Bruise On The Lower Jaw Be Treated With Ice Bags?

My husband had a basil cell removed by surgery from his lip (from nose to upper lip) on Wednesday (3 days ago). He has some swelling and bruising on the lip which we expected. Today we noticed his lower jaw near chin is swollen and has a bruise spot. Should we just treat with ice bag or what is your suggestion?

Hi,

Well, as the area of surgery is in the proximity of the area where there is swelling is.

Therefore, the swelling over the jaw at the chin area with a bruised spot seems to be due to inflammation only caused due to the surgery.

You can do cool compresses over the area and along with it, you can take the anti-inflammatory painkiller like Ibuprofen.

In case if the area looks infected you can consult your doctor and get a prescription of antibiotics.

For now, do as advised and wait and water for another 2-3 days.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
