my mother is 54 years old and has a lump on her left breast. the findings of her biopsy is "the resection lines are positive for tumor involvement". then the doctor said that we need to remove the left breast instead of removing only the lump. doctor said also that the lump is cancerous and it is in grade 3. what does it mean? do we need to follow what the doctor said? is grade 3 same with stage 3? please help me... i'm worrying too much for my mom. I'm Joy from Philippines
I think she had an excision biopsy. She will require a mammogram and other imaging to determine the extent of her disease. After that, the treatment can be planned between surgery, chemotherapy and radiation therapy. Grade 3 does not equal to stage 3. Grade indicates the tumour only whereas stage gives the overall picture. Kindly contact an oncologist for the requisite imaging.
