Should The Diabetes Be Tested By The Family Doctor?

MSy sister is 51 years old with hypertension. I have been taking her b/p and have on three different occasions had a diastolic reading of palp/0. I have been a nurse for 30 years and am taking it manually with new equipment. She is asymptomatic. She weighs 250 and is 5'0ft, and has recently been diagnosed with diabetes. She is visiting from another state and I don't know if this is something she should wait to go back to her doctor to see or needs attention now? I am just not familiar with a seemingly fine person to have this reading. Thank you

I read your question and i am able to understand your concern. To help you understand better, I would like to share some general information about diabetes pathology. There are two main features involved.
1.insulin resistance
2. insulin production defect from beta cells of pancreas.

During initial stages of diabetes the insulin supply and demand can be maintained by reducing insulin resistance. This is achieved by drugs like metformin and physical activity.
i suggest her to meet a doc and check her Hba1c which will give average blood sugar for three months.
She should increase her physical activities and try to reduce her BMI close to 26.
weight reduction is very important in treatment of diabetes.
take opinion of family doctor in starting medication like metformin.
weight reduction will also improve her blood pressure.
hope i was able to help you,I am ready for further discussion
