My husband broke his arm, a major clean break just under the ball and joint of his shoulder falling from a ladder 9 1\2 weeks ago. 3 days ago (Monday) he developed a tickle in his throat and constant cough, sometimes very severe. The next day (Tues) he has a fever as high as 102, fluctuating, depending when he takes the Tylenol severe cold medicine I purchased for him. Today (Wed) he is still running a fever between 100 & 101. I checked the symptoms for cold or flu on the web doctor site tonight. According to the information and his symptoms he appears too have the flu. With this info we would normally wait the 4 days or so for the fever to subside. My concern is the broken arm and his weaker immune system right now. He does not want me to take him to stat care as we have no insurance and the broken arm expenses are mounting. I guess my question is, how long do we wait to see a doc (normally we d wait a week), or because of the broken arm, should I insist we go to stat care now? My husband (Alan) is 57, 285 lbs, and has only been to the doctor twice in the 36 years we ve been married. His arm is healing phenomenally, I just don t want this flu to turn into something worse.
