Small Child, Crying Excessively, Screaming, Corneal Abrasion. Cure?

My 2 mo. old premature grandson has been crying alot and this has been going on a couple of weeks. We thought it was colic , then yesterday he started screaming and wouldn t quit. Nothing soothed him so my daughter took him to the childrens hospital. They said it was corneal abrasion. Would that make him scream like that?

Hello and welcome to HCM

Corneal avrasion is very painful as the cormea is pain sensitive structure.
Cornea is the transparent convex structure that covers the black/ brown/ blue part of the eyeball anteriorly.
Abrasion can result from an injury to the cornea by foreigh particles especially in lens wearers (in adults ofcourse).

Pain and watering are the usual symptoms. These symptoms are more pronounced on exposure to light.
Management consists of:
1. Providing rest to eyes.
2. Avoid exposure to light.
3. Antiobiotic eye drops to prevent infection.
3. In case of a child analgesic eye drops can be used to relieve the pain.

Abrasions usually heal in 48 hours.

Consult yopur doctor for prescription of drugs.

Thanks and take care
