Small Child, Fever, Cold, Constipation, Trying To Control Stools. Taking Ezlax. Cure?
Doctor We are in XXXXXXX. My son is 4 years 8 months old.He had febrile fever from the age of 2 and a half years old when he suffered from cold and high fever. MRI and EEG results are normal. He has constipation problem and not passing stool for 10 days.He is trying to control the stool.I am giving EZLAX for the past one week.Please advice me doctor.

I am sorry to hearabout your son. I gathered he got two main problems.
(1) Febrile convulsion from the age of two and half years
He got normal EEG and MRI scan
(2)He suffers from constipstion.
My opinion about (1) Febrile convulsion is very rare after the age of 5yrs.
i am sure he will grow out of it.
(2)Please give the child Docusate sodium Paeditric oral soln sugarfree 12.5mgm/5ml
3 times daily.

Hello
Ezalax is an osmotic laxative. Intake of plenty of fluid is required for better result of this laxative. Side effect is very less in Ezalax. So it is the first choice now a days for management of constipation.
But if the child is constipated even after 10 days of Ezalax, you can use glycerine suppository or enema for evacuation of bowel.
Once child passes stool, give him fibre rich diet and use ispaghula regularly for few days to prevent further constipation.
