Small Child, Red Sores On Tongue, Slight Cold, Cough. History Of Hand Foot And Mouth Disease. Treatment?

My son aged 2 years has red sores on his tounge like he has bitten it but there are 3 of them one in the middle and 2 near the sides. My daughter has had hand foot and mouth previously but I don t think it is the same he has no other sores but has a slight cold, runny nose and cough . The sores have been present for almost 2 weeks? Any idea what it might be?

Pediatrician 's  Response
it could be either the begining of hand foot mouth disease where the lesions usually begin from the fever. This is followed by lumpy small lesions in the hand /feet/knees etc.since your son does not have these lesions it could be just apthous ulcers of the tongue.some children have a tendency to get recurrent ulcers. There is no specific treatment, you cn apply a local anesthetic called zytee to the tongue .Zytee is safe and does not have any side effects. You can give a B complex syrup. It is self limiting and would heal without any major intervention.if it is recurrent you should show to a pediatrician
