Snapped Peroneal Tuberde Ligament. Can Physical Therapy Help Or Should I Get Surgery?
I was coming off a broken ankle and then in my rehab a heard a snap. Dr. said I snapped my Peroneal Tuberde ligament. You can hear pops in the foot when you move it left to right and right to left. Can physical therapy help or should I just get surgery
An MRI scan of the involved area is needed to exactly define the pathology in and around the peroneal tendons.
Physical therapy is of no help when there is an established damage to the peroneal retinaculum in which the tendons are positioned. A conservative (non-surgical) mode of management in the form of a splint and immobilization can be tried but the failure rate are as high as 50%.
So, the definitive treatment is only by surgical repair or reconstruction.
Hope this information is helpful. Good day
