Sore Throat, Swollen Glands, Dizziness And Pain In The Ears. What Is It?

Hi,
I went to the er with sore throat as they call it, I can't swallow my own saliva, I have post nasal drip from a sinus infection which had gone untreated for 3 weeks now because everyone tells me its just a cold, my mucous is brown yellow and bloody, my glands are swollen and nose is dry. Dizziness and severe pain in my throat neck and ears. Doctor at er said its allergies and sent me home with out anything. What do I do? I can't eat or drink anything and its getting worse, back if my tongue is slighly inflamed as well. What could this be?

ENT Specialist 's  Response
Hello

Thanks for writing to us about your query.

I read your query regarding cold, sore throat and difficult to swallow even your own saliva and now your both ears are blocked and you feel dizzy also.

According to your symptoms it appears as you are suffering from acute respiratory tract infection, involving nose as discharge and stuffiness this is giving rise to post nasal drip, which is responsible for infecting throat so as to develop sore throat. Once this remain untreated the inflammed and oedematous throat hurts even on swallowing your own saliva. At the same time due to pharyngeal infection eustachian tube opening on throat end gets blocked and thus developed negative pressure in ears and giving rise to blockade and pain in both ears.

You are advice to consult ENT specialist for thorough examination, relevent investigations and treatment. Till you are in waiting for doctor you may take-

(a) Tab Paracetamol.

(b) Tab cetrizine.

(c) Warm saline gargling and steam inhalation.

I hope this answers your query.

Regards.
