Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi. I was wondering if anyone knows what would cause all of my ribs to be sore? When the soreness started, it started in the front lower ribs with a burning sensation on both sides (left and right). Very tender to touch. It still hurts there, but also hurts down both sides and in back as well. What could have caused this? I have had no injury to the ribs whatsoever. I read about costochondritis , which I guess is possible, but it does not hurt when I cough , laugh, etc. Does costochondritits always cause pain when coughing and can it effect all of the ribs? I did have a recent bout with anxiety that threw me into a full blown panic attack. I was wondering if that could have caused my body to tense up severely, thus creating the sore ribs? Any ideas?
Thanks for writing to us.
A constant persistent pain in your rib cage is likely to be related to inflammation of the costochondral joints- costochondritis.
It is an autoimmune related problem and exact cause is not known. Pain during coughing is not always associated with it. Consulting a Rheumatologist will help in proper diagnosis and treatment.
Anxiety is not likely to cause such symptoms.
I hope this information has been both informative and helpful for you.
