Still Under Puberty. Go Gym Regularly. Using Dumbbells Will Halt My Growth?

I wanted to ask about height and growth of body. I'm not , much taller just 162 cm and I'm still under puberty (15 years old) and I go gym regularly. After every round of dumbbells or any other instrument, I come to hang so as to increase my height which I've heard happens due to gravity. Does or will these activites halt my growth? On net its given that nothing nothing happens, rather physical activites increases our height. Please help me regarding this.
Thanks.

Hello,
Welcome to Healthcaremagic.

Many studies shown that even weight lifting cannot halt the growth of bones.

There is growth plate at the end of the bones adjacent to the cartilage.
This growth plate is region where the bone is growing and thus increases your height.
In adolescents, these plates is weaker than ligaments .
If in an any accident or undue stress beyond the ligament injury, these plate get fractured and arrest the growth.

So Weight lifting and exercising with the help of proper trainer does not cause any injury or stunted growth.

Even these fractured plate can be cured with proper rest and timely care with the help of orthopedician.

Growth may halted if you have growth hormone deficiency, Malnutrition, Use of excess of steroids etc.

Thus exercise does not halt the growth as most of us believes.
So dumbbells or hanging not at all halt your growth.
Hope this helps
Take care.
Any doubt kindly reply.

Regards,
Dr.Manjeth
