Stomach Acid Problem Developed After Colon Resection. How To Overcome This?
I have had most of my colon removed (only 40cm remaining). Since my last colon resection I have developed a bad stomach acid problem. My doctor has prescribed altosec 20mg once a day and I take codeine phos 30mg 3 times a day to control diarrohea. Soon after I have eaten my stomach starts grumbling terribly and then I start running to the loo. The acid is so bad that it has made my bum very raw. Please can you give me some advice. I also take a probiotic once a day and a multivitamin.
Hello, Thanks for the query to H.C.Forum. I would like to advise you to do following measures . 1 Try raising the head of your bed about 4 inches with blocks. It also might help to avoid eating or drinking 2 hours before you lie down. To control stomach acid one should not drink alcohol or drinks with caffeine in them or greasy or spicy foods . Take some antacid but if symptoms are severe you should use proton pump inhibitors. In your case as these drugs are not acting so take REBAMIPIDE 2-2-2 for six months. 2 Tension is the main cause of such type of symptoms so consult a psychiatrist and get his consultation. 3 Take less amount of milk so many times. Good luck. Dr. HET
