Hi and thanks for the query,
Your symptoms are very compatible with
irritable bowel syndrome. However, a complete clinical review shall needed to exclude other organic causes of disease such as an intestinal occlusion, an infection or other.
to my patients, for an initial review, i usually suggest an abdominal
ultrasound and a stool examination and culture. Based on the degree of occlusion, a plain film of the abdomen could add to the diagnostic basket. A
complete blood count and a
c reactive protein measurement are helpful in excluding an infectious origin or complication.
Constipation usually affects the rectum, located directly behind the bladder. You need not therefore worry of the urinary frequency or changes you are experiencing. Distension of the bladder with hard stool (constipation) presses on the bladder causing you therefore to experience your declared symptoms.
My suggestion is a clinical review by your family physician first, then the examinations suggested could help in clarifying and orienting further management. thanks and kind regards.
