Suffer From Anxiety And Panic Attacks, Blurred Vision And Dizziness. Do I Have Diabetes?
My pulse was 102 this morning. It normally is around 76. I suffer from anxiety and occasional panic attacks and lately I have been experiencing blurred vision and dizziness while driving, which triggers a panic attack because I feel like I'm losing control of my body. I have talked to several doctors that just keep prescribing me medication for depression.... I have no reason to be "depressed" and don't feel that I am. I'm starting to think that there is something else going on....low blood sugar, diabetes, etc....something that is causing the blurred vision, dizziness and faint feeling, that THEN causes a panic attack.... Any recommendations of tests that I should ask for the next time I see my doctor or should I just accept the fact that these symptoms are developing from severe anxiety?
Hi,
thanks for using health care magic.
I have gone through your available history.
Dizziness, blurring of vision can be a symptoms of anxiety. but you must rule out physical causes of panic anxiety like diabetes, thyroid dysfunction or vitamin B12 deficiency.
Panic attack may occur without associated depression.
If your physical examination including blood test for sugar, thyroid and vitamin b12 comes to normal, than it is more likely because of anxiety.
In addition to anti depressant drugs, you can also go for relaxation exercise and breathing exercise.
avoid caffeine in excess.
thanks

Internal Medicine Specialist, Dr. Andy Fine's Response
hello friend, this is a serious constellation of symptoms and should be evaluated by another doctor, where they check for low blood sugar, an electrocardiogram, electrolyte and kidney function, and a complete blood count. Ask abut an event monitor as well to see if your heart is beating normally during these episodes. All cardiac causes must be ruled out before blowing this off as nothing but anxiety, which I do not think this is. consider cardiologist consultation. have a great day.
