Suffer From Recurring BV. Tried Metrogel And Flagyl. Antibiotics Also Doesn't Seem To Help. Cure For Symptoms?

I suffer from recurring BV..... have tried Metrogel and Flagyl... but the problem keeps arising. I have changed my laundry detergent to a free and clear and always make sure to wear cotton panties and with an underliner if necessary. Any insight you may give me? I have taken the Metroget twice and either Cipro or Flagyl 2-3 times. Sometimes the symptoms will go away for a year or so, but they always seem to come back..... the last run of antibiotics did not help....... can you help?

Hello,
thanks for using health care magic

Bacterial vaginosis is a bacterial infection of the vagina common in women who -practice vaginal douching,
-have multiple sexual partners,
-use antibiotics abusively etc.

In some women, there is a characteristic fishy smell worst after intercourse with grayish or yellowish discharges. However, some women do not have symptoms even though some school of thoughts think such women are being over diagnosed.

Bacterial vaginosis can be confused with other non bacterial infections of the vagina. In such cases, when antibiotics are given, it only helps to destroy further the ecology of micro-organisms in the vagina that normally live under check by the effects of others. Yeast infection and infections with trichomoniasis are commonly mistaken for BV and no matter the duration or quantity of antibiotics, there will be no favorable results.

What i will advise is that, you continue the efforts you are putting in and avoid douching if you do, and most importantly whenever you have vaginal symptoms such as itches, discharges etc, you meet your doctor for vaginal smear in a bit to identify the right causative agent so as to prevent further damage.
