Suffering From GERD, Heartburn Going On And Off, Diagnosed With Underactive Thyroid, Prescribed Synthroid. Treatment?

Hi I have been suffering from GERD for about a year. This made me feel heartburn twice a month at around 2 in night. This has been going on and off. Three weeks before, after a regular physical checkup, i was dignosed with underactive thyroid . My doctor prescribed synthroid 50. I am taking that for last 2-3 week now. However around the same time, my GERD worsened. I got a feeling of nausea at work, so came back home. Doctor said it is flu and take tylenol. I did that. things got better but last one week or so, i have persistent headache. this persistent headache is not making me feel normal and is not allowing me to work. Also if i eat normal diet, i feel heartburn, coldness in feet, and fatigue and tiredness. I had both endoscopy and CT scan done last week. Awaiting reports but gastroenterologist who did endoscopy said that it is normal and prescribed me ZANTAC 300 instead of pantaprazole which I was taking earlier. A detailed biposy report is still awaited. My problem right now is headache and gerd. not sure if all these 3 - thyroid , gerd and headache are related or not. Please suggest something

Hi

welcome to HCM,

Synthroid has e lot of side effect like all medicines, and one of them is severe headache.

So your pain may be related to synthroid.
You should talk with endocrinologist for this.

With regards to GERD, I'd suggest to continue zantac and to take care of food like:
-Avoid spicy foods, soft drinks, alcohol, smoking, coffee, tea and choccolate.

-You should eat 3 h before going to sleep.

-You have to sleep with two pillows.

All the best
