Suffering From Prostatitis

frequent need to urinate, it is affecting my sleep significantly. 42 years old and have had prostatitis in the past and several utis as well. I have a little of chills, but not constant. Also, feel general malaise - not sure if it is due to lack of sleep or urine problems. no pain or burning, but takes a while to get a flow of urine and then once empty, i have urgency fairly soon thereafter.

Hello
Thanks for query ..Symptoms like frequency for urination ,urgency .nocturia with previous history of Prostatitis srongly suggest to be recurrence of infection of prostate (Prostatitis)

You need to consult qualified Urologist for clinical and digital rectal examination and get following basic tests done to confirm the diagnosis.
1) Urine routine and culture.
2) Ultrasound scanning of abdomen and pelvis
3) Serum PSA.
4) Swab test and culture of urethral discharge obtained after prostate massage.

In the mean while you can start taking combination of Trimethoprim and Sulphamethaxazole along with anti inflammatory drug like Diclofenac twice daily .Later on switch on to appropriate antibiotics as per culture report .

Further treatment will depend upon result of these tests and final diagnosis.

Please note that Prostatitis takes long time to get cured hence one has to take medications for 4-6 weeks .
