Hi
I am 59 year old ex serviceman. Last 31 years suffering from Uveitis/Iriducycyclitis I.e inflammation of eye. Had to take steroids as eye
Drops and oral drugs. Frequency of attack now a
days is 3 to 4 times a year. Side effect of oral drugs has caused enormous weight increase.
Today I have a BMI of 40. I wish to get rid of excess weight. Tried exercises, diet plan but of no use. Any safe weight reducing drugs? I am also suffering from sleep apnea and other obesity problems. How safe is Bariatric surgery?

Hello,
It seems from the history that you are sufferring from chronic uveitis, for which you have taken oral steroid drugs and eye drops.
Chronic use of steroids is known to cause weight gain which is the probable cause in your case.
Steroids are required to prevent repeated attacks of uveitis as prophylactic drug. Steroids are known to cause many side effects of which weight gain is common. If you are having serious side effects steroids can be replaced by other group of drugs which are equally efficient as steroids in controlling the repeated attacks.
Hence I advice you to consult your eye doctor for replacing the steroid drug with some other drug.
Regarding weight reducing drug and bariatric drug please do consult your family physician or surgeon.
Thank you
