Suffering From Diabetes And Hypertension. Started Dialysis. What Is The Possible Life Expectancy?

My father is a 55-year-old patient who has been suffering from diabetes over the last 18 yrs. Recently almost over 6 months he got hypertension as well. Lately we found out that his creatinine level increasing much over to 12 GFR. As per doctor suggestion we initiated dialysis . Lot more people commented that the life expetency is just around 1 year for the patient on dialysis. With the matter of fact that it depends on variants of factors such as age, complications, etc, I would like to know what is the possible life expectancy for my father.

Hello
How long you or someone you love will survive with kidney failure depends on a lot of factors, including:
-- How old you are when your kidneys fail (the younger you are, the longer you are likely to live)
-- What illness caused your kidney failure, and how your health is otherwise (people with many other serious illnesses are unlikely to live as long as people who are pretty healthy other than kidney failure)
-- How well you take care of yourself (people who take an active role in their care and follow their treatment plans tend to do better and live longer than people who don't)
-- How good your medical and dialysis care are

You can live a long time while using dialysis to replace your kidney’s function but studies have shown that those who do best on dialysis are those who take an active role in their treatment.

2. DIABETES CONTROL - MORE INCIDENCES OF HYPOGLYCEMIA IS COMMON IN DIABETES KIDNEY DISEASE PATIENTS, SO PREVENT HYPOGLYCEMIA
3. INFECTIONS - AVOID FURTHER INFECTIONS WHICH WILL FURTHER AFFECT THE LIFE EXPECTANCY

SO FOR YOUR FATHER

1. KEEP HIS BLOOD SUGARS IN OPTIMAL RANGE
2. CONTROL HIS BLOOD PRESSURE MEANINGFULLY
3. AVOID SUPERINFECTIONS
