hi doctor, my friends daughter is 19 months old and for last six months she was having fits on regular intervals, they have done ct scan and eeg both came normal, again three days she had fever, they advised us to do MRI and the result shows that she has mild diffused cerebral atrophy , is it curable, the only symptom they had was she started walking very late after 14 months and now also she cannot walk properly, she falls after taking few steps and again she gets up on her own, and the rest everything is fine.

Hi, Thank you for posting your query. Your friend s daughter is suffering from epilepsy and she requires anti-epileptic medications. The best medicine for her may be sodium valproate in view of her seizure types. Regarding the MRI finding, it is not something to worry about. Mild developmental delay can occur because of fits. Please show her to a good neurologist and she should improve with proper treatment. Best wishes, Dr Sudhir Kumar MD DM (Neurology) Senior Consultant Neurologist Apollo Hospitals, Hyderabad
