Suffering With Hypothyroid, Have Sinus Blockage During Cold Weather Causing Facial And Eye Swelling, No Conversion Of R4 To T3. Help?
Hi, I have hypothyroid . A new doctor, according to my bloodwork, has taken away my T3 and is lowering my T4. Now when it rains or any storm comes I have sinus blockage which causes face and eyes to swell and great fatigue . I am also finding that I can not loose weight and holding water around the midriff even though I take water pills (40 mg). I was told once when I olived in Florida,( now NJ), that my body does not convert T4 to T3. I have been depressed and frustrated for a year and have been to 2 doctors the last one being Dr. Christina Mitchel from Philadelphia. had blood tested again this morning for thyroid. Can you help?
thank you.
i am sorry for your condition.
in case of hypothyroidism, weight gain is a characteristic feature.
edema develops due to deposition of some substances. this edema is difficult to decrease with water pills alone.
probably you have enzyme deficiency which converts the t4 to active form t3.
you may need the active form of thyroid hormone.
I am sorry Laura to know about your frustration. The reason your doctor says that the T4 to T3 conversion is not happening in you is because you wanted to know why you are not losing weight. But if you are taking thyroxin for your hypothyrodism and your TSH has been in normal ranges then you cannot blame your hypothyroidism for the inability to lose weight or the swelling episodes of your body.
People who experience swelling of body parts are generally having Anti-TPO, ANA positivity and they should opt for healthy lifestyle of weight loss to avoid more frequency of such episodes.
In short, if thyroid test is normal then there is nothing to worry on thyroid part as a cause of your other symptoms and weight. Take care.
