Suggest A Diet Plan For A Diabetic With High Blood Pressure

I am looking for information on proper nutritional information for a diabetic with high blood pressure. Also someone who needs to lose about 20 pounds. I need to know how many calories, how much protein, how much sodium, how many carbs, etc. he should have in a day. Is there any place on your site where I can get this information.

Hello and Welcome to HealthcareMagic,
It is very good you are concerned about your friend. If you are in the US, you can contact Eatright.org for a list of Registered Dietitians in your area that can consult with your friend on a DASH based diabetic weight loss meal plan to control blood pressure by reducing sodium, increasing potassium, decreasing added sugars and simple carbohydrates, weight loss and exercise.

Please bring with you the following information: height, weight, blood pressure, labs from doctor, a list of all medications and supplements and a three day food diary listing amounts and names of all foods consumed for two weekdays and one weekend day.

Regards, Kathy Shattler, BS, MS, RDN
