Suggest A Vegetarian Diet Plan To Increase Potassium Level

I need a complete list of VEGETARIAN foods, fruits, vegetables, grains, nuts, seeds, etc. which are very high or just high in Potassium. I was admitted to hospital Wed., Aug. 05 to Thurs., Aug. 06, 2015 because I was feeling really not well, phoned the Paramedics who arrived, lost consciousness for a few minutes, and they (hospital staff who tested me) said I had low Potassium and hemorroids. My e-mail address is: YYYY@YYYY Thank you, Shirley Barrett

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi

I have gone through your query.

There are many foods that can be high in potassium. One example is a banana. However, low potassium levels are usually caused not by diet but with kidney disease or some medications.

Some symptoms of hypokalemia include heart changes, arrhythmias and palpitations. Getting to the cause of the low potassium would be useful. Please see a doctor to confirm this cause.

Getting a Renal function test would be a good place to start.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr. Vignan Rachabattuni
