Suggest Alternative Means To Treat Nodules In Patients With Hyperthyroidism

Hello, I have recently been diagnosed with hyperthyroid. My thyroid shows 2.5 on the test so my doctor says it is mild. I have a nodule also that this Thursday will be scanned to see if it it 'hot'. If so, it is recommended I have surgery to remove that along with part of my thyroid. If not, then I don't think I'll be treated yet until it gets worse. Does this treatment protocol sound right? Are there natural cures? My symptoms are: racing heart, losing weight, jittery, anxiety, hair and fingernail changes. Thank you

Hi,
Welcome to HCM. I have gone through your question and understand your concerns.

If hyperthyroidism is due to thyroid nodule, medications can only temporarily decrease the function of thyroid. The permanent cure is either surgery of radio iodine treatment.

Your doctor has chosen surgery as the next option, which is justifiable.

There are no natural treatment for hyperthyroidism. You can decrease the iodine intake in our diet.

Hope I have answered your query. If you have any further questions I will be happy to help.

With warm regards,
Dr Ajish TP (MD,DM)
Consultant Endocrinologist.
