Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My mother-in-law who has dementia, not Alzheimer s, is in an assisted living facility. They give her Remeron for appetite stimulation, which she does need or used to - she takes 2 supplements, Boost and something else, and is maintaining a good weight. Is there something better for appetite stimulation without the other effects of Remeron?
Best appetite stimulant is cyproheptadine. It is available in syrup form. So start syrup cyproheptadine in your mother in law. Its dose is 1 tsp (teaspoon full) thrice a day before meal.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Kaushal Bhavsar, Pulmonologist
