Suggest Alternative Of Spironlactone To Block Androgen
I was diagnosed with secondary hyperaldosteronism a year ago and have been on 25 mgs. spironlactone. It has caused low basal body temperature and low pulse. I have recently been taking a half dosage. Is there another drug besides ACE inhibitors than can block androgen?
Thank you for your query. I can understand your concerns.
The more selective MR(mineralocorticoid receptor) antagonist eplerenone can also be used. Doses start at 25 mg bid and it can be titrated up to 200 mg/d. It does not possess any anti-androgen, progestogen, or estrogenic effects. Another useful drug in secondary hyperaldosteronism is the sodium channel blocker amiloride (5–10 mg/bid).
