Suggest Better Treatment For Ulcerative Colitis

My husband has had ulcerative colitis for 25 yrs. last March he had a heart attack. After the heart attack his ulcerative colitis became must worse. He now goes to IV therapy with Remicade. It does not seem to be helping. I wonder if he were to give up all ruffage or go on gluten free diet would it help him.

Welcome to HealthCare Magic. Thank you for posting your query.
I can understand your concern for your husband.

Ulcerative colitis indeed is a chronic disease that will take some time to heal. You see Remicade or Infliximab that your husband is receiving will show its full action once the entire dose is completed that is 300 mg on 3 occasions that is 0 , 2 ,6 weeks. Once the course completes , he will definitely improve.

I would suggest you to ask him to
-     Drink loads of water
-     Avoid oily,spicy food
-     Have a diet rich in fibres
-     I would start tablet Pantoprazole .
-     I would also start Sucral enema , Pentasa 1gm thrice daily .Your doctor can guide on the exact dosage
-     Avoid straining during stool

Keep in touch with your doctor . He or she can examine him and correlate clinically and guide on the further management.

Hope this helps.
