Suggest Diet For Pancreatitis

I have pancreatitis and was just recently diagnosed with it. When released from hospital, I was not given any diet foods that were proper to eat. I am wondering if I can have chicken and if so should it be prepared a certain way. Any other suggested foods? My doctor is on vacation this week and the nutritionist at the hospital has not responded yet. Many Thanks, Sandie

The main food to be monitored in pancreatitis is the fat consumption and alcohol. Have low fat foods. As per the National Pancreas Foundation, you should not consume more than 20 grams of fat a day. No one meal should have more than 10 grams of fat. Eating boneless chicken breasts and most fish helps keep your meals low in fat. You can add fat-free chicken broth.
Other diet recommendations are:
. Easily digestible foods
. Low-fat diet
. 6 small meals
. Adequate protein intake
. Increased calories
. Avoid alcohol completely
