You need to make certain dietary modifications to avoid
acid reflux.
1. Avoid spicy (chillies, garam masala) and fried foods. Heavy meals with rich spicy curries and lots of fats must be avoided completely.
2. Eat small meals and foods which are simple and easily digestible.
3. Avoid lying down for atleast 2-3 hours after a meal and eat light during dinner.
4. Avoid bedtime snacking as it can also cause acid reflux especially if you lie down soon after snacking.
5. Avoid consumption of carbonated drinks especially cola drinks, tea and coffee due to caffeine which increases acid production.
6. Avoid citrus juices and vinegar due to their acidic nature.
7. Have plenty of curd (not sour),
cold milk or cold milk based dessert (rice kheer, vermicelli kheer) when having acidity.
8. While eating, make sure you sit with a straight back and do not bend over or slouch as it may put pressure on your stomach leading to acid reflux.
9. If you are
overweight, try to reduce weight by staying active and eating a healthy low fat, fibre rich diet.
10.
Smoking and alcohol consumption also cause increased acid production.
