First of all you need to take antiemetics after consulting a physician to control
vomiting sensation. Once vomiting has been brought under control, you can start will clear fluids like coconut water, lemon water,
barley water etc to check for tolerance.
Prepare homemade ORS: Take 200 ml of boiled and cooled water and add a pinch of salt and a teaspoon of sugar to treat
diarrhoea.
If well-tolerated you can take fruit juices like orange juice, pineapple juice, pomegranate juice with sugar added. You can also take
glucose water 3-4 teaspoons in 200 ml boiled and cooled water at frequent intervals to provide energy.
As long as you have loose motions, avoid milk as it worsens diarrhoea. Milk doesn't get digested easily when you are ill. Are you having
fever also? Did you take your temperature? If you have fever, then completely avoid milk. Once fever subsides and diarrhoea stops you can begin with buttermilk ( whip curd and add water to make buttermilk) as it gets digested easily. Buttermilk or lassi is also good for treating diarrhoea.
Begin with simple and easily digestible foods like steamed idli/khichdi (indian rice and pulse dishes), boiled eggs, bread with butter, potatoes, curd rice (a south indian preparation).
Have small frequent meals with glucose containing liquid/fruit juices with sugar in between meals to increase energy intake.
You need to avoid fruits except ripe bananas which will not only provide energy to get rid of weakness and will also be beneficial in treating diarrhoea.
Hope your query has been satisfactorily answered. Take rest and sleep well at night.
