Suggest Diet Restrictions For Diverticulosis

I am having a flare up of newly diagnosed diverticulosis.....I am in pain now and the only thing I had to eat recently was tomato soup made with almond milk and some crackers......could the tomato soup cause the flare up?......also I cannot get an answer on how much fiber to have.....would I benefit with Metamucil along with fiber taken in at meals???

Hello,

Diverticulosis is the formation of pouches in the intestine particularly of the big intestine that may turn into inflammatory condition or infection, but no food or diet may change the condition until and unless it is being proved clinically, else you can have to the tomato soup.

If fiber causes diarrhea, then it is better to avoid it, again diet or food is nothing to do anything with Diverticulosis, it is the condition for which no exact cause is known.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Akhtarhusain
