Suggest Diet That Could Work As Blood Thinner

I developed blood clots in the lungs after heart surgery and have been put onto Xarelto. I am now experiencing side effects to Xarelto I did not want to take medications as I have a healthy vegetarian diet and prefer supplements and healthy food to medications. Are there supplements and food you would recommend as blood thinners?

Welcome to HCM. I cannot advise you on this as treating yourself for lung blood clots or trying to manage your condition yourself after heart surgery is dangerous. If Xarelto bothers you and you were my patient I would send you back to talk to your primary about another plan of action.

Do not try to treat yourself. Labs must be monitored for medication titration. Healthy diets are great, but you are dealing with a serious medical condition not to be treated on your own.

Good Luck! Kathryn Shattler, MS,RDN
