Suggest Diet While Suffering From Bowel Obstruction
My wife believes she has a blockage in her bowels which causes her to become constipated to the point where she must take a laxative at least once a week. She literally has no bowel movement for a week unless she does this. While it helps and I believe she is probably right about the blockage, I also think she should be following a better diet as well. Can you suggest a better diet or direct us to one online? Also, what danger is there in using laxatives in this way? Are some safer to use than others? And is there any way our doctor can help other than what we re doing right now?

Suggest Diet While Suffering From Bowel Obstruction
Hi, No danger in using over-the-counter laxatives per se. She should try to avoid too many carbs and eat a fiber rich diet and drink plenty of water. Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further. Regards, Dr. Anders Mark Christensen, General Surgeon
