Suggest Dosage Of Cortisone For Swollen And Painful Knee In An Elderly Patient

Please let me know if an elderly woman, 99 yrs old, can take a low dose pill of cortisone for her swollen and painful knee? She doesnot want to see a doctor anymore, and she can take Tylenol for her pain but it does not help much for the swollen problem. She is living in an Asian country. Thank you

Hi,

I am sorry for the situation the lady is going through.

There are various causes to swollen knee. Arthritis is the most common happening among elderly.
As she does not want to see a doctor, I advise to:
- give ibuprofen or other OTC pain-killers apart tylenol
- apply warm clothing locally
- apply OTC analgesic cream locally

If no improvement, can take Cortisone pill orally, but monitor her blood pressure.

All the best!
