Suggest Dosage Of Labetalol For Regularizing BP Levels
Approx 6 weeks ago I started taking Labetalol for high blood pressure. So now by blood pressure is all over the place , 113/55 pulse 95, 88/53 pulse 93, 95/52 pulse 95, 101/55 pulse 96. Prior to this I have had high blood pressure 160/75, 168/80, etc. I am a 74 year old woman. I am now taking 100mg twice a day. Should I be concerned? Thank you very much.
The dose of Labetalol you are using is appropriate. Normally, it is started at 100 mg twice a day and may be increased by 100 mg every 2-3 days in case there is a need.
In your case, your blood pressure is quite low, so I would not recommend you to increase the dose. I would recommend you to go on with the same dose, make sure you eat and drink well during the day and rest as needed. If you notice that you are not feeling better in a week or so, you may need to let your doctor know and possibly have your heart checked again. An ECG would be necessary and possibly a heart ultrasound as well.
I hope this answers your query. I remain at your disposal in case further medical assistance is needed.
Regards, Dr. Antoneta Zotaj General and Family Physician
