Suggest Dosage Of Prednisone 20mg

I was prescribed prednisone today to help with poison ivy discomfort. I got 21 pills, 20 mg. The doctor neglected to put directions on the jar. I took 2 pills to start and assume I double up for a couple of days. Because I have 21 pills, maybe I take 3 a day for a week. I get poison ivy every spring from my garden but cannot remember the dosage. Suggestions?

Prednisone is a steroid drug used to treat to many conditions especially inflammatory diseases like arthritis, lupus, skin diseases, and allergic conditions too.

If you have just allergic symptoms due to poison ivy, you may try antihistamines first, without passing to Prednisone since these drugs are more potent and have more side effects too.

I would recommend you Loratadine which is a non sedative antihistaminic drug and is used in allergic disorders.

Anyway if you want to continue with prednisone, you may use it up to 60mg a day divided in 3-4 doses. But you have to make the changes of doses gradually so your body will be able to adapt with that. I would suggest you to take it twice a day if your symptoms are not such severe.
