What is thexpected correct dosage for trimethoprim antibiotic for uti? 200mg or 300mg twice a day? I ve been prescribed 200mg twice a day but my symptoms keep recurring. In the past when I took 300mg twice a day it worked after the first dose. What should I do?

Hello!
I have been through your question.
Related your concern you should know that for an UTI in adults usually the recommended dose are 100 mg orally every 12 hours for 10 days or 200 mg orally every 24 hours for 10 days. What I suggest for you is to use 200mg trimethoprim every 24 hour for 10 days and after you have finished all treatment you can evaluated your symptoms and do an urine test (after 5 days of finished the antibiotic) to see if the UTI is definitely treated. If the UTI persist you should do an urine culture and to see antibiogram if exist any resistance related to trimethoprim and need to change the antibiotic. Usually for a better result in my experience I use bactrim ( trimethoprim +sulfamethoxazole) to treat an UTI.
I hope my answer help you.
I wish you a quick recovery.
