hi haemoglobin of 6.7 is too low for a 12 year old. kindly get him tested to see whether he has only iron deficiency or another cause. you have not mentioned his weight which is required to calculate his dose of iron. I suggest you can give him syrup tonoferon 2.5 ml twice daily 2 hours after his meals along with lemon juice to increase its absorption. slowly increase it to thrice daily if he is not have any side effects like nausea, vomiting, loose stools or constipation. if he not able to tolerate oral iron go for injectable ones to improve his hemoglobin. get him tested after two weeks to see for any response to treatment. he has to take iron for at least three months after his hemoglobin is corrected to improve his stores. also modify his diet to include iron rich foods like spinach, nuts , eggs, green leafy vegetables, chicken, ragi etc and cut down on tea, caffeine and carbonated drinks which prevent iron absorption in diet. hope this helps you.
