Unable to express my dire pain to both current ortho dr and pain clinic dr.- Any Other pain med I may take- loathe the side effects of hyper, dry mouth, severe itching , shakes ans sweats. I am generally a healthy 59 yr old woman with no meds other than OTC- - BP normal and weight ok... can you please offer another pain med for me? Plz excuse the type oh s and spelling- they have me on Elavil too. I loathe taking these things, they are NOT setting well with me. Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Narcotics are not for everyone. without an exam, I can only give general information and cannot say in your particular case, but generally, trauma is going to be more from inflammation than nerves. This changes what medicines are more likely to work. Narcotics are not effective in everyone and they work by changing the brain relationship to pain rather than the underlying problem. IN trauma/inflammation a variety of anti-inflammatories including celebrex should be tried. Placebo's, especially when people know exactly what they are, are helpful. By a related process, physical therapy is helpful. BUT especially aquatherapy which acts like the world's best ace wrap to lower swelling and improve function and mobility.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
