Suggest Medication For BP That Have Lesser Effect On Potassium
Hi, I m taking Azor 10-40MG and also a diuretic Hydrochlorot Hiazide 25 mg. As a result my potassium is always very low. I m taking potassium pills, Potassium Chloride ER 10 MEQ, 2capsules, 3 x every day but but the level is still low. Is there another blood pressure med that I can take that will have a lesser effect on my potassium? I allergic to Veraphamil.
I have gone through your problem of having low serum potassium level while taking the medications for high BP. I am of the opinion that the low serum potassium level appears to be due to the diuretic ("water pill") which is known to promote excretion of potassium from the kidneys and hence the potassium level goes down. The other two medications do not cause a reduction in potassium.
So, if your BP is not controlled with Azor 10-40 mg, you may require another medication like a beta blockerMetoprolol or Bisoprolol which does not decrease the level of potassium hence can be combined with Azor 10-40 mg.
So, consult your treating doctor for the possible use of a beta blocker along with Azor 10-40 for effective control of BP with lesser effect on Potassium.
