Suggest Medication For Diabetes

I believe my friend has been suffering from DKA for possibly a week, maybe longer... when sent to the Doctor, she lied (yes, I don t understand this either) and said she was taking her Insulin 3 times a day, rather than 1. She has a hard time keeping food down and has lost weight. Often I will talk to her and she will be laying down, within a few minutes she is asleep... no matter how much sleep she has had. She is going to college out of state, and I am not there in person - so I cannot force her to go to the doctor - but if its serious, I can get ahold of her relatives and or medical emergency staff.. I am hoping this will clarify the level of concern I should communicate to her. She is 21, Female. Type 1 diabetes.

Hello,

the information you've provided is not sufficient to judge her situation. A type 1 diabetes patient needs insulin to live. If she doesn't take her insulin she'll die. It's as simple as that. If she takes insulin but her blood sugar is not within suggested limits by her doctor then she'll have serious problems like dehydration, acidosis etc.
Since she's very young she needs a better blood sugar control to avoid early diabetic complications. Sometimes patients get bored of their condition and "forget" to do what they have to do. If this is the case with her, then she's going to need psychological support by anyone who can provide it for her.
I hope I've given you some direction. If you need more specific guidance, please provide a more detailed description of her situation.
Kind Regards!
