Suggest Medication For High TSH Of 6.8 To 10 Year Old.

Dear Doc., My Child is 10 years old and he is 58 Kg weight. His Tsh was normal till 1.5 year back, but in this year's test, it is at 6.8 level. T3 and T4 are normal. Do you suggest a 50 mg thyronorm or lesser for this child. He has to go to school every day. Are any side effects possible?

Hi thanks for contacting HCM....

Your childrens thyroid hormone level normal and TSH mildly elevated ...

Diagnosis : subclinical hypothyrodism

So here your child examination has to be done and detail history neeeded ..Clinical correlation necessary ...

If symptoms there and intellectual capacity affected levothyroxine 25 to 50 mg per day has to be started. . .

TSH monitoring is essential even though drug not started by physician...

If TSH continue to rise than levothyroxine is essential to take ....

Advise : physician or endocrinologist consultation ..

Take care ....
